Wow! Congrats to the students and parents for a very successful and memorable Halloween Carnival! The younger students and faculty were raving about the festivities this year! Thank you to all who helped in any way. It was truly a wonderful day.
Once a week, students are thrilled to participate in Math Games on Fridays. While this may sound like just a fun time with friends, it is in fact a great learning experience. During these games, students are building onto the geometry topics learned this past week. Students played Angle Tangle, Triangle Sort, Polygon Capture and What’s my Attribute. During these Math days, students rotate through the games every 15 minutes. A favorite game this week was Polygon Capture! This game reviewed all the regular polygon sides and angles. Ask your student what game was their favorite!
Students were introduced to all new centers this week. This week students are working on figurative language, keyboarding and biography reading during centers. A favorite center was the tessellation project introduced in math with polygons and continued during center time. Students looked at the work of M.C. Escher for inspiration to create a polygon tessellation. Ask your student what polygons they used in their tessellation!
Students have had such a treat during this memoir writing unit. Cinelle Barnes truly inspired our class to be young writers. Their ideas and stories are inspirational and have transformed their narrative writing skills into a complex writing structure. Students are working on structuring their memoir and editing their work to blend essay and narrative writing. Students are adding transitions and adverb phrases (learned during grammar) to enhance their writing. Ask your child what their memoir is about!
