The Cooper School Daily

Math is My Motto!

Our Fourth Grade mathematicians will soon be jumping into Unit 3 and tackling fractions and decimals. This unit focuses on three main ideas about fractions: recognizing equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, and showing fractions in different ways. Encourage your child to look for everyday uses of fractions in grocery stores, shoe sizes, measuring cups and statistics in newspapers!

Community Helpers!

Fourth Grade community leaders have been active in keeping our school grounds clean for the month of October! At the end of each day, five students are assigned to be in charge of cleaning up the playground. We used rakes to clear the wood chips off the sidewalk, put mud kitchen supplies in their proper place, returned equipment on the playground to the shed and finally picked up any trash by the picnic tables. Ask your child to share some ways they have helped clean up our community at school. Go Fourth Grade helpers!

Grecian Artists!

Art is a special time for TCS Fourth Graders in many ways. This week, students channeled their inner Greek artistic side to create Ancient Greek vases. Students drew large symmetrical vases while using black tempera paint in addition to oil pastels. They will etch their design onto these vases. This project was in perfect sync with our current study of Greek Mythology. Students were able to showcase amazing precision while crafting their vases. Ask your child to explain the process of making their vases! You’ll be amazed.
